DRIVEWAY APPROACHES AND DRIVEWAYS

 

  1. Driveways that cross a public sidewalk shall conform to the sidewalk grade.  The

maximum grade of any driveway shall be less than 10%.

 

  1. Driveway cannot be more than 24 feet wide between street and property line.

 

  1. Driveway cannot be more than 30 feet wide between property line and house.

 

  1. No driveway or driveway approach shall be closer than one (1) foot from any side property line.

 

  1. That part of a sidewalk, which also is part of a driveway, shall be constructed to comply with 5.b. below.  The thickness of the concrete shall not be less than five (5) inches.

 

    1. Bituminous approach and driveway:

§         Excavate to 8".

§         Stone base to be 6" compacted rock or stone.

§         Stone base to be rolled with minimum 2-tone roller.

§         Apply hot mix surface course or 2’ compacted 1-11 or

equivalent.

§         Roll with 1 ˝ - to 2-ton roller.

 

    1. Concrete approach

§         Stone base to be 6" compacted crushed rock or limestone on tamped soil base.

§         Slab shall be 5" thickness of 3,000 lb. P.S.I. concrete (maximum 5" slump).

§         Concrete surface shall be troweled and brushed.

§         Minimum 6-bag mix concrete with 6% air entrainment.

§         Linseed oil seal coat as per manufacturer’s specs.

 

6.         Driveways shall be extended to the front or rear corner of the house or to the garage apron is one is constructed, and must be extended to the rear on all lots where there is no attached garage.  Such driveways shall be constructed with an impervious surface.     

 

 

 

      c.  Concrete Driveway:

§         Stone or sand base of 5" minimum thickness.

§         Wire mesh reinforcing (6" x 6" 10/10 WWF) or 3/8" steel reinforcing rods 24" O/C both directions. (optional)

§         Driveway slab shall be a minimum of 5" thickness of 3,000 lb P.S.I. concrete (maximum 5" slump.

§         Concrete surface shall be trowled and brushed.

§         Minimum 6-bag mix concrete with 6% air entrainment.

§         Linseed oil seal coat as per manufacturer’s specs.

 

  1. A building permit is required for the construction of a driveway approach.  The approach shall terminate at the curb line and no material or construction of any kind shall be placed on a street pavement or gutter.  Alteration of street curbs is permitted upon issuance of a building permit for an approach.

 

  1. A pre-pour inspection is required.   A final inspection is required when the work is done.

 

  1. Submit a plat of survey showing location of proposed driveway and/or approach, dimensions of driveway, and distance to property lines.

 

  1. An occupancy permit shall not be issued until the approach and driveway are completed.
