Village of Montgomery

Welcome to Montgomery, Illinois

Advisory Committees

Each Standing Advisory Committee is composed of one Trustee to act as Chairperson and one Trustee to act as Vice-Chairperson for a period of two years. The Chairperson determines the procedures to be followed by the Committee.

During the month of May in odd numbered years, the Chairpersons and Vice-Chairpersons of each Committee are reviewed and reassessed by the Village President with the advice and consent of the Board of Trustees. In the event a vacancy occurs or a need for broader experience in coverage is needed, the Village President has the authority to reassign Committee Chairpersons and Vice-Chairpersons with the advice and consent of the Board of Trustees. It is the intent of the Village Board to rotate the Chairpersonships and Vice-Chairpersonships among all the Trustees for broader experience in coverage, but yet maintain continuity and experience in areas that great expertise has been shown.

In addition to the Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson, each Committee has two voting members who are employees of the Village. These persons serve for two-year terms, beginning on June 1st in each odd numbered year. The Village Manager, or her staff member designee, serve on each Committee as Advisor and Liaison to provide guidance to the Advisory Committees.

A quorum of an Advisory Committee for purposes of conducting business shall be no less than three voting members. A recommendation by a Committee must be approved by an affirmative vote of no less than three voting members.

Advisory Committees make recommendations to the Village Board regarding matters of policy and legislation, but do not become involved in the day-to-day administration of the Village.
