Refuse and Recycling Program

The Village's five-year refuse hauling contract with Allied Waste took effect on March 19, 2007. Under this contract, Allied picks up trash, yard waste and recyclables for all residents in the Village. Pick up day is Monday for all residents west of the Fox River, in Season's Ridge, and in the area generally west of Lewis Street and south of Hartway Drive. Pick up day is Wednesday for all other residents.

Residents may put out 2 cans or bags of trash along with unlimited recycling each week. One kraft bag or bundle of yard waste may also be discarded each week without a disposal sticker. Additional cans, yard waste bags or additioinal items such as furniture, appliances, etc. will require a disposal sticker that may be purchased at the Village Hall or local stores (Montgomery Market Place and Jewel). Brush and leaf pick-up will also be conducted by the Village at no charge from April to October based on a schedule published in the Village newsletter each spring. Program features

  • The price of disposal stickers was set at $2.25 each, effective January 1, 2010.
  • Refuse containers must not exceed 33 gallons in size or 50 pounds in weight.
  • One yard waste bag or bundle will be picked up per week unstickered. Any additional bags or bundles of yard waste must have a disposal sticker affixed. Yard waste may not be put in garbage cans.
  • Allied Waste will deliver a recycling container at no charge to newly constructed homes upon request to Allied. New 25-gallon recycling containers may be purchased at the Village Hall for $17.
  • Recyclables, including newspaper, junk mail, cans, bottles, plastics and cardboard, may all be placed in the same recycling container.
  • Furniture, mattresses, appliances, window a/c units, etc. require a waste sticker to be attached to each item.  However, these items will be picked up at no charge during the annual Spring and Fall Clean-up (see below).
  • For the safety of Allied Waste employees, please wrap broken glass in papers.  Do not place it loose in plastic bags. Home medical supplies such as hypodermic needles must be placed in special sharps containers.  Call Allied Waste at (630) 892-9294 for more information.
  • Residents are billed for the monthly fee that the Village pays to Allied. This charge is itemized on the bi-monthly water bill. The fixed fee effective January 1, 2010 will be $15.25.

Special features

A special Senior Citizen Option allows seniors aged 65 and older to "opt out" of the monthly billing and instead purchase special 14-gallon trash bags at a cost of $1.31 per bag. Under this program, all furniture, appliances and yard waste must be stickered. An optional Backdoor Service is also available to seniors and residents with disabilities to eliminate the need to transport refuse containers to the curb. This Backdoor Service will cost an additional $10.50 per month, which will be added to participants' water bills as a separate charge. Applications for these programs and additional details are available at the Village Hall.

The Village will provide a Spring Clean-up Service and a Fall Clean-up Service each year, during which residents may discard unlimited amounts of trash, yard waste, large items and appliances without affixing refuse stickers. The dates for these special clean-ups will be announced in the Village newsletter.
