Pets and Animals

The Village has an Animal Control Ordinance governing the types and numbers of pets and animals allowed in a household. Following are some of the important items of the Ordinance that residents should be aware of:

1) There is a maximum limit per household of two (2) dogs or cats of any one species, or a total not to exceed four (4), except that any animal used as a bona fide Seeing Eye dog is not counted in determining the number of animals in the household.

2) The Village does not license cats or dogs; however, anyone who keeps a dog or cat within Village limits must maintain a current county license tag and rabies inoculation tag for each animal.

3) Domestic animals are not permitted to run at large within the Village.

4) No person shall permit any animal to bark, cry or make other distressing or loud or unusual noise or disturb the peace or quiet of any neighborhood, family or person in the Village.

5) The owner of every animal is responsible for immediate removal and sanitary disposition of any excretion deposited by his animal anywhere in the Village.

6) No person may own, keep or harbor within the Village any snakes, reptiles or lizards that are poisonous in nature, or any rodent weighing more than one pound, with the exception of guinea pigs.

7) Farm animals, such as horses, cattle, swine, and fowl are only allowed on property zoned agricultural.
