Brush and Leaf Pick-Up

Brush Pick-Up 2010

To assist residents and encourage good property maintenance, the Village of Montgomery offers brush removal service to residents each year from spring to early fall. The service is intended to help residents of the Village in disposing of small amounts of branches, hedge trimmings and yard wastes which are too large to fit in the yard waste bags accepted by their regular garbage hauling service. The monthly service will be provided during the first full week of each month from April through October. This corresponds to the weeks of April 5, May 3, June 7, July 5*, August 2, September 6*, and October 4, 2010. (* Indicates pickup begins on Tuesday due to the Monday holiday.)

To help ensure that we continue to efficiently and effectively provide this service to Montgomery residents, the following rules have been established:

• Brush must be stacked neatly in the parkway by 7 A.M. the Monday of pick-up week.
• Brush pile size cannot be more than 5’ x 5’ x 10’, in one directional bundles with the larger trunk portions facing the street.
• Branches must be 4 inches or smaller in diameter and not more than 5 feet long. We cannot accept bushes with roots and dirt attached, and no grape or other vines.
• Containers of twigs, leaves and smaller yard debris should be placed in yard waste bags for removal by the Village’s regular garbage hauling service, Allied Waste. As part of your monthly garbage service, Allied Waste will pick up one 30 gallon yard waste bag each week at no extra cost to you. Please take advantage of this service.
• The Brush Removal Program is not intended to handle large branches, logs, or tree stumps from large-scale pruning or tree removal projects. Public Works crews will not remove trees cut down through contracted work or brush from non-residential properties.
• This service is provided to residential properties only. Public Works crews will not remove brush from commercial, industrial, or other non-residential properties.

Brush must be placed on the parkway in front of the property from which it originates (Village of Montgomery Code, Sec.9-45), so do not place brush in the street or onto other lots. Brush may be placed in the parkway for removal up to one week before the scheduled pick-up dates.

Village staff will make every effort to remove brush on the first Monday of each month throughout the entire Village. Manpower constraints, equipment repairs, and emergencies may, however, limit our ability to accomplish this goal. During these times, brush removal will continue throughout the week until complete.

If you have any questions in regard to the Brush Pick-Up program, or any other Public Works services, please call the Montgomery Public Works Department at 630-896-9241.

Leaf Pick-up

During the months of October and November, Village Public Works crews provide leaf pick-up services to Village residents. Residents who wish to have their leaves collected must have them raked neatly behind the curb/edge of roadway in front of their homes by 7 a.m. on the Monday of each week. Crews will make one pass through the village each week, unless excessive leaf quantities require additional routes. The service is generally provided during October and November, but the starting and final dates will be determined by weather conditions and landfill closing dates. Please call the Village Hall at 630-896-8080 or Public Works at 630-896-9241 for exact dates.

  • Please remember that leaf burning is prohibited by Village ordinance (Village of Montgomery Code, Section 12-27). It is also important to remember that leaves must be placed on the parkway in front of the property from which they originate (Village of Montgomery Code, Section 9-45), so please do not rake leaves into the street or onto other lots.
