Village of Montgomery is paving the streets with a successful Pavement Management Approach. The plan began in 2004 when the Village rated all its streets and adopted a strategic approach to paving and rehabilitation. Due to funding constraints the early program years averaged 1 mile of new paved streets per year. In 2016 a 1% local sale tax increase took effect helping invest additional funds for roadway repairs; this financial boost fueled an uptick averaging 5 miles of paved roads per year.
At the July 8th board meeting the board was updated on the pavement plan from the Village Engineer stating “Through a combination of federal funds and increased local revenue the Village will complete 35 miles of paving, averaging about 7 miles per year from 2016-2020.”The Engineer also reported “The Village is currently working on a new 5-year street maintenance plan that will start in 2021.”
At the conclusion of each year's program Public Works reevaluates the current 5-year plan, reviews the program with the Village Board and makes any adjustments that are needed for the next year’s program.
