Senior Programs Return to the Village of Montgomery

Senior Programs Return to the Village of Montgomery

Montgomery, IL - The Village of Montgomery Intergovernmental Committee is pleased to announce that senior programming and events will return in 2021. The Village has a long history of supporting the local senior community through educational and social engagement opportunities. The popular Dime Jingle will return the third Wednesday of each month beginning July 21, and the Senior Luncheons will return later this fall.

Dime Jingle is a fun game that requires no prior experience to play. Started more than a decade ago by resident Gretchen Countryman, this active group meets once a month and is always open to new players. Reservations are not required for the 2021 events, and participants are asked to meet in the Multi-Purpose Room on the lower level of Village Hall (River Street entrance) at 10:00 a.m. The participation fee is $2.00 per person, for which the Village will provide a $1.90 in change to be used for the games and coffee and light refreshments from event sponsors. “It is a simple game, but so much fun. I have coordinated with local businesses and supporters to provide fun prizes as well – everyone has a chance to win,” says Countryman. “It is really about the community and getting out to socialize more than anything. All ages are welcome, but our group is primarily 55 and older. We are always looking for new players, so don’t hesitate to come by and check it out,” Countryman adds with a welcoming smile.

In addition to Dime Jingle, the Montgomery Village Hall is home to the monthly Senior Luncheon spearheaded by Village Trustee Dan Gier, which takes place approximately ten months out of the year on the second Tuesday of the month. Historically the group does not meet in August due to Montgomery Fest and is currently planning to start up again following the COVID-19 pandemic in September or October. The luncheon is preceded each month with a program or educational seminar for the public to enjoy. Programs range from health seminars, musical performances, and nature or historical education and are free to the public. The fee for the luncheon is $5 per person. Advance registration is required and opens on the 1st of each month. Following the luncheon, guests are encouraged to stay for bingo complete with prizes.

Alden Gardens at Waterford in Aurora is sponsoring the July and August Dime Jingle events. They will provide light refreshments for guests and be onsite to answer any questions. The Senior Programs are always looking for new sponsors to provide entertainment, refreshments, or other support.
